Georgetown Prep defeats Bullis 2-0 to win the IAC hockey championship

Georgetown Prep capped an improbable postseason run by defeating Bullis 2-0 on Friday to win the IAC hockey championship. The Hoyas, who entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed, upset top-seeded Landon 4-2 in the semifinals after beating St. Stephen's/St. Agnes in the first-round game.

Despite losing key players from last season and enduring a five-game skid, Prep's disciplined defense and senior goalie Billy Bass's stellar play powered their title run. A weather delay before the semifinals gave the Hoyas extra preparation time to contain Landon's All-Met star Reid Pehrkon.

"This group had a smart defensive game plan and a hot goalie—that's often enough in hockey," Coach Brian Danver said.

For senior captain Timmy Overcash, the win fulfilled a two-year promise to teammate Alex Markva to bring home a championship. "Out of all the teams we've been on, can you believe it was this team?" Overcash said.
